Toastbox Toastbox how I love thee....

When I moved over to Hongkers, I thought that I would be inundated with all sorts of Asian foods and would be spoilt for choice. That definitely has been true, however there is a part of me that just wants some decent Malaysian grub and it's been a struggle to find some.

I don't think that's too much to ask to have some decent Malaysian fare over here seeing as KL is less than a 4 hour flight away - Melbourne is a 9 hour flight away and the Malaysian food there is pretty darn good! Admittedly most food is good in Melbourne but c'mon... I'm in Asia!

After several failed attempts (Festival Walk food court - you should be ashamed of yourself!) I discovered Toastbox in HK! Hurrah hurrah! Not only does it serve up decent versions of my standard Malaysian favourites like Nasi Lemak and Hainanese Chicken Rice, but feast your eyes on this lovely creation!

That's right baby, Milo sprinkled over condensed milk on thick toast!!!
YUMMO!!!

A piece of Malaysian goodness amidst all the HK misses. Happy sigh.

(We'll just pretend that it isn't a Singaporean company... shhh...)

Yah what I find in Asia is that it's too specific. Viet food is good in Vietname, Malaysian food good in Malaysia, HK food good in HK. You don't go to HK for Viet food!

Whereas, Australia is so foreign and far, that pockets of each nation need to set up shop to service their community. Ok that's enough analysis.

Have you been to any of the Food Republic food courts? They are owned by the Breadtalk group. I had chicken rice from Sergeant's Chicken there. It was quite good but I am no expert! I went to the food courts in Tai Koo Shing and also one in Tsim Sha Tsui opposite/near Harbourside shopping (I can find details if you want).

I saw chicken rice in HK airport on my recent stopover!! I was too busy looking at the yummy chicken that I didnt pay attention to the shop name, but it's upstairs where the Maccas and Popeye chicken is.

Btw, has the Toastbox in Singapore airport shut down? Last time I went there I couldn't find it and I was kinda dying for some kaya toast.

Hahah funnily enough the first meal I had in HK was at Food Republic - there is a big one in the Citygate Shopping Centre but I have to say I wasn't too impressed with that sushi train. I think I was suffering from massive jetlag though lol

I tried to chicken rice there - and it's not bad, but it's not great. Still, beggars can't be choosers and it is definitely one of the better ones in HK.

We ARE very lucky in Melbourne - so many cultures, such awesome ingredients - and I think I've been spoilt by it but I am definitely going to be getting some good food this weekend - I'm off to Singers!

Chicken rice here I come :D
